First of all to start the removal process securely position the front wheels and disconnect the lead of the battery negative terminal for at least 3 minutes. Subsequently, unbolt the Stein and turn the key gently into the LOCK position so that its steering shaft does not rotate while the
Steering Wheel is installed out-of-sync hence risking damage to the airbag spiral cable. Continue with the removal of the instrument cluster finish panel and knee bolster found beneath the column and then the steering column trims. Pull the wiring harness fasteners and the electrical connectors off the steering column and finally remove the hole cover of the steering column at the fire wall. Locate the position of the steering shaft to the intermediate shaft U-joint, loosen the U-joint pinch bolt then if required, take off Heating and air conditioning duct assembly lower. Then, the fasteners that attach the steering column to the vehicle should be undone and after this, the entire steering is to be lowered with great care due to the fact that nothing is supposed to be connected to the column at this stage and finally, the steering column should be pulled backward to detach the U-joint from the steering shaft. During installation, insert the steering column into the location by ensuring that the previously marked points and intermediate shaft are in a correct position. Tighten the column mounting fasteners and the pinch bolt to the prescribed torque 708-823 N·m. The remaining part of the installation takes place in the reverse order of uninstallation. Remember that on models that have vehicle stability and traction control if any steering parts will need to be replaced then the control light on the instrument cluster will blink to signify that it needs to re calibrate the system. If there is no warning light, then it should be normal, but calibration needs specific tools and advanced knowledge, and it is recommended to take the car to the dealership or a quality service station. Understand that while the vehicle has or may have stability/traction control, anti-lock brake system, downhill assist control, these may not work until calibration is done.
