Scion 23209-21020 Injector Assy, Fuel

Relieve the fuel pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the auxiliary 12-volt battery. Be sure to perform the initialization procedure when reconnecting it. Remove the air filter housing. For 2009 and earlier models, disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. Open the wiring harness clamps and position the wiring harness aside. Disconnect the fuel line leading to the fuel rail. For 2010 and later models, remove the outer cowl assembly. Disconnect the interfering wiring, then remove the EGR tube and its gaskets. Disconnect the wiring and the 4 hoses, then remove the EGR cooler assembly. Disconnect the fuel injector wiring connectors. Disconnect the engine wiring harness and move it aside. Remove the clamp from the fuel supply tube. Pinch the connector fitting, then pull the fitting from the tube. For all models, remove the fuel rail mounting bolts and carefully withdraw the fuel rail and injectors from the cylinder head. Remove the spacers from the cylinder head. Remove the injectors from the fuel rail. Replace the O-ring and grommet on each injector. Remove the insulators in the cylinder head and replace them with new ones. Lubricate the O-rings with clean engine oil and install the fuel injectors onto the fuel rail. Make sure the spacers are in place and install the fuel rail/injector assembly onto the cylinder head. Install the fuel rail mounting bolts and tighten the bolts. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.
