- A:Relieve the fuel system pressure, then disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the fuel tank cap. Remove the fuel pump assembly. If you're working a 2005 and later model, remove the plastic support on the bottom of the pump by releasing the clips with a screwdriver. Twist the fuel pressure regulator from the assembly.
