Q:
How to replace the front crankshaft seal on V6 engine for Toyota Camry and 2007 through 2015 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the crankshaft pulley. Carefully pry the seal out of the timing chain cover with a screwdriver or seal removal tool, being careful not to scratch the crankshaft. If you use a screwdriver, wrap tape around the tip to avoid scratching the housing bore or damaging the crankshaft, as this could cause the new seal to leak. Clean the bore in the timing chain cover and coat the lip and the outer edge of the seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease. Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer. Lubricate the seal lip and drive the new crankshaft seal into place with a large socket or piece of pipe and a hammer. Ensure it's installed squarely and driven in flush with the surface of the timing chain cover. Check the seal after installation to make sure the spring didn't pop out of place. Reinstall the crankshaft pulley, tightening the bolt to the torque. Run the engine and check for oil leaks at the front seal.
