To remove the alternator drivebelt, start by jacking up the right-hand front wheel and supporting the car with an axle stand. Remove the engine right-hand lower cover panel from under the car. Loosen the alternator lower pivot bolt and the lockbolt for the adjuster bolt. Unscrew the adjuster bolt and push the alternator forwards to release the drivebelt tension. Remove the belt from all the pulleys, noting the routing. For models with hydraulic power steering, loosen the adjuster bolt from the top of the power steering pump and the lower pivot bolt from beneath the vehicle. Push the top of the pump toward the engine to remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley. To refit the belt, feed it onto the pulleys, ensuring it is seated properly. Install the belt onto the alternator pulley last. If necessary, loosen the adjuster bolt to allow a new belt to fit. Tighten the adjuster bolt to take up the slack in the belt. Turn the engine in the normal direction of travel to settle the belt. Adjust the belt tension by turning the adjuster bolt in small steps. Check the tension by pressing on the belt midway between two pulleys. Repeat the tensioning procedure until satisfactory. Tighten the adjuster lockbolt and the alternator lower pivot bolt to the specified torque. Lower the car and run the engine to check for slipping. If a new belt has been fitted, recheck the tension after a month or 1000 kilometers.

If the drivebelt appears not to be too slack but has actually been slipping in service, the belt should be checked for any sign of external contamination and the source of the leak should be cured before fitting a new belt.

The final step is to double-check the belt's alignment and ensure it is properly seated on all the pulleys.
