Sway Bar removal requires taking out the steering gear and then extracting the sway bar from the left wheel well. Damage to the sway bar is often due to severe accidents affecting other major components, necessitating professional repair services. For 2008 and later Highlander V6 and 4WD models, as well as 2009 through 2015 RX350 models, the engine/transaxle assembly must be removed to access the sway bar. Begin by loosening the front wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle, and securely supporting it on jack stands before removing the front wheels. Disconnect the sway bar links by removing the lower nut, and if necessary, the upper nut if the strut is being removed. Detach both sway bar bushing retainers from the subframe, noting that on 2016 and later Lexus models, the right rear exhaust manifold must be removed for sway bar access. While the sway bar is detached, inspect the retainer bushings for cracks or wear and replace them if needed. Check the sway bar link by flipping the ball joint stud side-to-side and measuring the torque reading after tightening the nut. Clean the bushing area of the sway bar with a wire brush, then lubricate the new bushings with vegetable oil, ensuring the slits face the rear of the vehicle during installation. Finally, install the links and tighten the link nuts and retainers to the specified torque.

To remove the sway bar kit on a vehicle, first, loosen the front wheel lug nuts and raise the front of the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the front wheels and disconnect the Tie Rod End and sway bar kit links from the steering knuckles. Detach both sway bar kit bushing retainers from the engine cradle and remove the front exhaust pipe and steering gear mounting bolts. Lift the Rack And Pinion and remove the sway bar kit by working it out through the left wheel housing. While the sway bar kit is off the vehicle, inspect the sway bar bushings and link assembly. Clean the bushing area of the sway bar kit with a stiff wire brush. To install the sway bar kit, lubricate the new sway bar bushings with vegetable oil and reverse the removal steps.
