Toyota 46420-06090 Cable Assembly, Parking Brake

Lower all rear wheel nuts, lift the car's back end, hold it safe with jackstands, lock the front wheels, then replace the wheel one by one. Let go of the parking brake completely before you handle the brake disc. Take off the parking brake shoes from their place and untie the cable stopping the wheels from moving sideways. You first remove two bolts holding the cable housing to the backing plate, then remove all bolts connecting the cable brackets. While the exhaust is disconnected, pull the exhaust pipe down to reach the cable clamps after taking off the heat shield. Follow the cable back to find its clamp, loosen the clamp bolt, move the cable housing out of its place. Use locking pliers to undo the clip holding the cable end to the bracket. Mark where it's attached for later placement, before taking it off. Slide the cable end out of the slot in the top of the equalizer by lining it up. We undo the installation steps in reverse order to put everything back in place, and then adjust the parking brake to work well. After taking out the center console, unleash the parking brake cable and slide off the locknut and adjusting nut so you can disconnect the cable from the handle. In the middle of the car, undo two bolts keeping the cable flange attached to the floor. Swivel the flange 90 degrees out of place and push it through the floorpan hole. To set up the equalizing brake bar, apply a thin layer of oil on the part where the cable meets the device, then fine-tune the cable's ability to work the brake. To detach the front brake cable from pedal-type models, take out the front seats and console, disconnect the cable from the rear of the turnbuckle by unscrewing the two nuts, then twist the turnbuckle off from the front cable end. You must take away the driver's kick panel, knee bolster, and knee bolster reinforcement to reach the parking brake pedal bracket sub-assembly. We remove the locknut and adjuster at the pedal assembly, loosen them until the cable comes off. With locking pliers, we take out the retaining clip from the pedal assembly and pull out the cable. After removing carpet, find the floor clamps that hold the cable, then take them off. Taking everything back out is the opposite of uninstalling, and then you adjust the parking brake to match.
