Loosen the lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and remove the rear wheels. Remove the brake disc and shoes, then disconnect the cables from the backing plate and unhook them from the equalizer.

Follow these steps for replacement: Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Remove the wheel and ensure the parking brake is fully released. Take off the brake disc and parking brake shoes, disconnecting the parking brake lever. Unbolt the cable housing from the backing plate and all cable brackets. Lower the exhaust pipe and remove the heat shield to access the cable clamps. Release the cable housing from the clamp. Remove the clip securing the cable end to the bracket, noting its mounting configuration. Disconnect the cable end from the equalizer by aligning the cable with the slot in the top of the equalizer. On Lexus models, access the equalizer by removing the floor crossmember mounting fasteners and lifting the crossmember. For the parking brake lever-to-equalizer cable, remove the center console, release the parking brake cable, remove the locknut and adjusting nut, and detach the cable from the lever. Inside the console area, remove the bolts securing the cable flange to the floor and push it out through the hole. Installation is the reverse of removal, applying grease to the cable end that contacts the equalizer and adjusting the parking brake cable.
