To remove the valve cover, throttle body, air intake chamber, intake or exhaust manifold, or the engine itself, it is necessary to first take off the intake ducts by loosening the large hose clamps at both ends of each duct section. After removal, reassemble the ducts as illustrated and ensure the clamps are tightened securely without pinching or kinking the ends, as this could lead to air leaks. For 1979 through 1981 models, the air filter box assembly is located at the right front corner of the engine compartment, with the air filter box inlet attached to the top of the front half of the box by bolts that need to be removed to lift it off. The front half is secured to the body with three brackets, which require the removal of bracket bolts for detachment. The rear half connects to the airflow meter with four nuts; to access these, release the spring-type clamps, separate the halves, and remove the filter element before detaching the airflow meter. Reassembly follows the reverse order of disassembly. For 1982 and later models, the air inlet and cylindrical air filter box are secured with several fasteners, and removal of individual sections or the entire duct assembly is often necessary for various operations, with precautions similar to those mentioned earlier. To detach the rear half of the air filter box from the airflow meter, remove the four nuts located inside the box, particularly noting that for 1987 and later turbo models, these nuts must be removed from inside the box.
