- A:To remove and replace the oil cooler in various engines, start by draining the engine oil and removing the oil filter. For 1GR-FE and 2UZ-FE engines, disconnect the oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler and remove the union bolt to separate the oil cooler from the oil filter adapter. Install a new O-ring and plate washer, then tighten the union bolt and install a new oil filter. Refill the engine with oil and the cooling system with antifreeze. For 1UR-FE, 3UR-FE, and 3UR-FBE engines, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the engine splash shield, engine cover, drivebelt, cooling fan and shroud, and air conditioning compressor. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler and remove the tube mounting bracket bolts. Remove the oil filter bracket and discard the O-rings. Remove the oil cooler mounting nuts and remove the cooler from the oil filter bracket. Install new gasket and O-rings on the oil cooler spacer, new O-rings on the oil filter bracket, and torque the cooler nuts and bracket fasteners. Install a new oil filter element and refill the engine and cooling system with antifreeze. Check for coolant leakage and proper gauge function.Posted by ToyotaPartsDeal Specialist
