Inspect spark plug wires when installing new plugs. Look for arcing or sparks in a dark, ventilated area with the engine running. After cooling, examine the distributor cap and rotor. Disconnect each wire from the spark plug, checking for corrosion, burns, or cracks, and ensure a tight fit. Inspect each wire at the distributor end for corrosion and fit. Replace any damaged wires with a pre-cut set for your engine model. Check the distributor cap for cracks and worn contacts, and the rotor for cracks. Replace if damaged. Measure resistance between wires and cap; replace if it exceeds the maximum value. When installing a new cap, transfer wires one at a time.
