Toyota 16210-42030 Coupling Assembly, Fluid

Check the Cooling Fan Assembly carefully for cracks, especially around the base of each blade. If any cracks are evident, replace the Cooling Fan Assembly. Check the clutch for fluid leakage. If it's leaking, replace the clutch. Try to move the fan blades in a front-to-rear direction. If they wobble, replace the fan clutch. Spin the fan by hand. It should resist spinning (more when the engine is hot). If it spins freely, or won't spin at all, replace the fan clutch. Drain the cooling system. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the overflow hose from the radiator. Turn the air cleaner assembly up out of the way. Loosen the alternator pivot and adjustment bolts, then pivot the alternator towards the engine so the drivebelt is slack. Remove the nuts securing the fan clutch unit to the water pump pulley and drive flange. To detach the fan clutch remove the nuts behind the fan blades. Remove the fan shroud retaining bolts. Withdraw the fan clutch unit together with the fan shroud, being careful not to damage the radiator cooling fins. To separate the fan from the clutch, remove the four nuts that attach the two components. Installation is the reverse of removal.
