To remove the distributor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and unplug the electrical connectors from the distributor. Locate the number one cylinder spark plug wire terminal on the distributor cap and remove the cap. Turn the engine over until the rotor is pointing towards the number one spark plug terminal. Make marks on the distributor base, rotor tip, and cylinder head for proper alignment. Loosen the bolts in the distributor collar and remove the hold-down bolt. Pull the distributor straight out to remove it, being careful not to turn the crankshaft. To install the distributor, align the grooved tang of the coupling with the protrusion on the housing if the crankshaft has been turned. If not, insert the distributor into the cylinder head in the same position as before. Check the alignment marks and rotor position, then loosely install the hold-down bolt. Complete the installation in reverse order and check the ignition timing before tightening the hold-down bolt securely.
