    Q:
How to remove and install the distributor on Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
To do this, disconnect the clip of the cable from the negative Terminal of the battery, plus if there is a requirement of the activation code to the anti theft system, kindly ensure that you possess the same. Pull the electrical connectors out then identify the raised number one position on the distributor cap, which is attached to the number cylinder spark plug wire terminal. If no mark is made, trace the wire moving from the number one spark plug to the cap at the other end. Take off the distributor cap and crank the engine as if you are starting the engine until the rotor faces the terminal labeled "1". After break down, you should take a point on the edge of the distributor base and use it as the rotor tip reference for reinstallation to the corresponding position on the engine block. If there are collar bolts, turn them anti-clockwise only up to a point as to reach the collar not removing them completely. Take out the distributor hold down bolt, and gently lift the distributor straight up with the clutch, be careful not to turn the crank during this process. Regarding installation, if the crankshaft has turned, search for Top Dead Center for the number one piston and orient the distributor/rotor disperser. Place the cut-out portion of the coupling with the groove in the housing and put back the distributor in the engine with the relation it had to the block before its removal. If it does not seat completely, align the marks on the stators and the rotor position correctly. However, for removing the bolt, one has to turn it anti clockwise and then proceed with the reverse sequence for installation. Last, inspect the ignition timing and use the distributor hold down bolt to fasten as a clamp.
