Q:
How do you remove the Flywheel on V4 engine for Toyota Camry and 2007 through 2015 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the transaxle, start by removing the front pump seal or O-ring if it's leaking. Next, remove the pressure plate and clutch disc and check or replace the clutch components. Make alignment marks on the flywheel, driveplate, and crankshaft for correct reinstallation. Remove the bolts securing the flywheel or driveplate to the crankshaft, using a screwdriver to jam the flywheel if needed. Finally, remove the flywheel or driveplate from the crankshaft, supporting it while removing the last bolt. When installing, clean the flywheel and inspect for any damage. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the flywheel/driveplate and crankshaft. Position the flywheel or driveplate against the crankshaft, aligning the marks made during removal. Apply thread-locking compound to the bolt threads before tightening them in a criss-cross pattern. The rest of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

A:
To remove the flywheel/driveplate, first raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Remove the transaxle and replace the front pump seal/o-ring if necessary. For manual transaxle equipped vehicles, remove the pressure plate and clutch disc, and check/replace the clutch components and pilot bearing. Make alignment marks on the flywheel/driveplate and crankshaft. Remove the bolts securing the flywheel/driveplate to the crankshaft, using a screwdriver to jam the flywheel if needed. Support the flywheel while removing the last bolt and keep the spacers with the driveplate for automatic transaxle equipped vehicles. To install the flywheel/driveplate, clean it and inspect for any damage. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the flywheel/driveplate and crankshaft. Position the flywheel/driveplate against the crankshaft, aligning the marks made during removal. Apply thread locking compound to the bolt threads before tightening them in a criss-cross pattern. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of the removal procedure.
