Drop the spring seat or shim(s) over the valve guide and set the valve spring and retainer in place. Compress the springs with a valve spring compressor and carefully install the keepers in the upper groove. Slowly release the compressor and ensure the keepers seat properly. Apply a small dab of grease to each keeper if necessary. Repeat the procedure for the remaining valves, being careful to return the components to their original locations. Finally, check the valve spring installed height with a dial or vernier caliper.

If a valve binds in the guide, it should be pushed back into the head and the area around the keeper groove should be deburred with a fine file or whetstone.
