Then, six screws must be unbolted to release the throttle body, fuel rails, and injectors, then engine and transmission dipstick tubes. Remove the thermostat housing, and front and rear coolant passages along with a front coolant pipe assembly. Pull off the exhaust manifold(s), which one must know that the pipes can be detached so that the manifold can be pulled off conveniently. Move on to remove the alternator and both upper and the lower intake manifold together with all the other components that would hinder the process. First, the timing belt has to be taken off along with the camshaft sprockets, drivebelt idler pulley, and the drivebelt tensioner, then the upper timing belt cover number 3 has to be removed. Take out the camshaft(s), only loosen the cylinder head bolts to 1/4 turn before coming off, and stuff a piece of rag into the oil drain hole, a head bolt washer could be dropped here. Remove the cylinder head from the engine block, and use a wooden block and hammer if the heads don't come off easily; do the same with the other head. For installation, the mating surfaces of the cylinder heads and block should be clean, using a gasket scraper and brake system cleaner only. Sometimes the mating surfaces may be damaged hence it is important to check for any damage on the mating surfaces and repair it. Swab out the threads of the cylinder head bolt holes and blow off with compressed air. Clean the bolts by removing rust and examine them for elongation, change those bolts which are below the minimum diameter. Place the new gaskets on the dowel pins in the block properly adjust the head on the block without shifting the position of the gasket andlubricate the threads and washers of the bolts with clean engine oil and finally screw the bolts in the original locations and make them sheer tight. Next, it is advised to rotate all bolts along the sequence to bring them to the nominal torque while painting the bolt heads first for the sake of identification. Turn each of the bolts another ¼-turn, then another ¼-turn, with the paint marks being parallel to each other but in the opposite direction from the starting position, in this case 180-degrees apart. The same has to be done for the other cylinder head, and then, the rest of the installation processes have to be made in the reverse order to the removal. Last of all, refilling the cooling system, change the engine oil and filter, start the engine, and check for dripping.

New cylinder head bolts should be used when installing the cylinder head. This procedure applies to either cylinder head, and the manufacturer recommends removing the engine and transaxle assembly to perform it. Begin by removing the camshafts and camshaft housings, followed by the exhaust manifolds. If removing the left cylinder head, gradually loosen and remove the two front bolts. Remove the cylinder head bolts gradually and evenly, in the order opposite that of the tightening sequence, then take off the cylinder head from the engine block. Discard the old cylinder head gasket. Ensure the mating surfaces of the cylinder heads and block are perfectly clean before installation. Use a gasket scraper to eliminate all traces of carbon and old gasket material, then clean the surfaces with brake system cleaner. Stuff the cylinders with clean shop rags to keep out debris while working on the block, and use a vacuum cleaner to remove any material that falls into the cylinders. Check the block and head mating surfaces for nicks, deep scratches, and other damage; slight damage can be removed with a file, while excessive damage may require machining. Use a tap of the correct size to chase the threads in the cylinder head bolt holes, then clean them with compressed air to ensure nothing remains in the holes. Position the cylinder head gasket on the engine block with the lot number stamp facing up, then carefully place the cylinder head on the gasket. Apply a light coat of oil to the new cylinder head bolts, install and tighten them gradually and evenly, in the proper sequence, to the initial torque. After tightening all eight bolts to the initial torque, mark the front edge of each bolt, then retighten each bolt in the same sequence another 90 degrees, repeating this process one more time for a total of 180 degrees from the initial torque. If installing the left cylinder head, install the two front head bolts and tighten them in the correct sequence to the torque. If both cylinder heads were removed, install the other cylinder head now. Proceed to install the intake and exhaust camshafts, followed by the camshaft timing oil control valve, oil control valve filter, and VVT-i sensor. Install the timing chains, timing chain cover, and all components attached to the cover. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Finally, install the engine/transaxle assembly, refill the engine with oil and coolant, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, start the engine, and check for leaks.

It is applicable to either of the cylinder heads of this procedure. Start the procedure with parking the engine at TDC compression of cylinder no. 1 and then pulling the cable off the battery's negative terminal. Empty the engine oil and water, then unbolt the engine plenum, air cleaner housing, top portion of the intake manifold, and the valve cover or covers. Unplug the fuel supply and return hoses connected to the fuel rail, then remove the lower intake manifold with the fuel rail. Take off the assemble of coolant passage, situated at the back of the engine, along the ''Engine Coolant Temperature sensor and heater hose'' comprise of gaskets and an O-ring. Loosen and then remove front exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold from the car . Take out the timing chain and the sprockets which are camshaft timing oil control valve, oil control valve filter and VVT-i sensor. Before taking off the left cylinder head, firstly, if the two front bolts are as indicated below, they should be loosened, and then the cylinder head bolts should be loosened gradually and evenly in the sequence opposite to that in which they were tightened before taking off the cylinder head. Remove the old cylinder head gasket. The mating surfaces on the cylinder heads and block must be free from any contaminants; use a scraper and brake system cleaner. Pack the cylinders with clean shop rags to exclude dirt; look for damage on the block and head mating surfaces and correct them if found. Pursue the threads in the cylinder head bolt holes and blow clean with compressed air. Cut off the threads on each bolt and in turn check the diameter of the threads and replace one with a standard diameter of less than the standard size allowed. Put two tiny drops of RTV sealant on new cylinder head gasket and then place it on the engine block in such a way that the stamping lot will be on top. Position the cylinder head over the gasket and apply some oil on the threads of the cylinder head bolts before tightening and equally spacing them to the initial torque. Following this tighten each bolt a further 180 degrees in the sequence that has been marked on the bolt. When tightening the heads, when the left cylinder head is being installed, the two front head bolts to be tightened need to be tightened in locations opposite to where they were removed from. If both the cylinder heads were removed, place the other cylinder head now. Continue to fit the intake and exhaust camshafts, camshaft timing oil control valve, the oil control valve filter and the VVT-i sensor next followed by the timing chains before fitting the timing chain cover. The rest of the Installation procedure is opposite to the removal Procedure mentioned above. Replace the oil and coolant, reconnect the cable on the negative terminal of the battery, and restart the engine; look for leakage.
