Before removing the hood from your Avalon, place blankets or soft pads over the fenders and cow section to stop any damage from scratching the body's paint. Take off all cables and wires that could block your work. Mark around the hood latch to help put the hood back exactly where it belongs. Use your hands to pop out the clips on the top of the support struts. Put your shoulder behind both lower hood corners, and an assistant repeats the same action on the other side. After that, simply unscrew the bolts securing the hood. When putting back the hood, place the hinges where your earlier marks show. You can adjust the hinge plates by loosening the bolts or nuts, then moving them. Regular bolts are needed instead of factory centering bolts to make adjustments. Measure how the hinges move, then take off the bolts. Guide the hood into the right position while tightening the hinge bolts back. Move the entire hood latch block both up and down, and from side to side on the radiator holder, until it sits firmly and without gaps between the fenders. Place a mark around the bolts holding the hood latch in place, loosen the bolts and reshuffle the latch's position, then retighten the bolts. To end, adjust aligning the hood's rubber bumpers at the sides of the fender, and remember to coat the door hinge and latch with grease often to keep them working well.
