    Q:
How to remove and install an exhaust manifold in V6 engine on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
The following procedure applies to either exhaust manifold, First, you should remove the cable that is connected to the negative end of the battery. After that, safely rod up the front part of the car on jackstands, but before that on models having rear height control suspension, press the height control switch in the NORMAL mode, turn it off, and switch off the engine. Next, remove the front muffler pipes from the exhaust manifold and finally, remove the electrical connectors of the upstream oxygen sensors. Next, unbolt the three bolts on the shroud of the exhaust manifold support bracket and then take the bracket off. Go on and unbolt the six nuts on the exhaust manifold and then take out the manifold proper and dispose of the old exhaust manifold gasket. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to use a new gasket with the oval-shaped protruding tip facing the correct direction, for the first part of the left manifold the tip needs to be positioned to the rear, and for the second part of the right manifold, the opposite is true. Last, but not least, fasten the exhaust manifold nuts to the indicated amount of torque.

    Q:
What should I know about removing downstream catalysts on the 2006 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
    - On V6 models, the downstream catalysts are located in the two-piece front exhaust pipe assembly and can be removed separately for either cylinder bank. Each catalyst and its inlet and outlet pipes are welded into a one-piece assembly. - On V8 models, there is only one downstream catalyst located between the junction for the two front exhaust pipes and the flange that connects the front exhaust pipe assembly to the rest of the exhaust system.
