Toyota 22250-42020 Meter Assy, Intake Air Flow

The Mass Air Flow Sensor is situated between the air cleaner housing and the air intake duct to the throttle body. To test it, unplug the electrical connector and connect an ohmmeter to the terminals, checking that the resistance values match the specified measurements; if any values are outside the specified range, the Mass Air Flow Sensor needs replacement. For non-turbo models, unplug the electrical connector, detach the Mass Air Flow Sensor from the air cleaner housing for 1979-1981 models, loosen the hose clamps and detach the ducts for 1982-1986 models, and for 1987 and later models, loosen the hose clamp for the No. 2 air cleaner hose, remove the air cleaner cap and filter, and detach the Mass Air Flow Sensor from the housing. A bench check can be performed on non-turbo models after removal by connecting an ohmmeter between the terminals and checking the measuring plate openings, noting that resistance between terminals E2 and Vs will vary with the measuring plate opening. For turbo models, remove the air cleaner ducts, unplug the electrical connector, release the spring-type clamps and bracket bolt, loosen the large hose clamp, and remove the Mass Air Flow Sensor and air cleaner housing together. Then, remove the screws and bracket from the Mass Air Flow Sensor, pry off the lock plate, and detach the mounting nuts from inside the housing for 1987 and later turbo models. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
