    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pan in 3.0L and 3.3L V6 engine on Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the hood, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, raise the vehicle, and securely support it on jackstands. Remove the engine splash shields, drain the engine oil, and remove the oil filter. The oil pan consists of an aluminum casting attached to the block and transaxle, along with a lower stamped-steel pan section. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter and the support bracket, and remove the nuts holding the pipe to the exhaust manifolds. Remove the driveplate cover by taking out two bolts, then remove the two bolts securing the aluminum oil pan section to the transaxle. Detach the steel oil pan section by removing ten bolts and two nuts; if it's stuck, carefully pry it loose without damaging the mating surfaces. Remove the oil pump strainer/pickup and the bolts securing the aluminum oil pan section to the block, noting that some bolts may be under the steel pan. If equipped, remove the oil pan baffle plate. For installation, use a scraper to eliminate old sealant from the block and oil pan, clean the mating surfaces, and ensure the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean. Check the flange of the steel pan section for distortion and flatten it if necessary. Reinstall the baffle if it was removed, clean the mating surfaces of the engine block and aluminum pan section, and apply a 4 mm wide bead of RTV sealant to the aluminum pan section. Install the aluminum pan section within five minutes and uniformly tighten the bolts from the center outwards. Inspect the oil pump pick-up/strainer assembly for cracks and blockages, clean it if removed, and install it with a new gasket. Apply a 3 to 4 mm wide bead of RTV sealant to the flange of the steel oil pan section, position it carefully on the aluminum section, and install the bolts, tightening them from the center out. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, allowing the sealant to set for at least two hours before adding new oil and a new oil filter, then run the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pan in Four cylinder engine on Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before proceeding to the removal of the oil pan the job requires you to take off the cable of the negative terminal of your car battery , engage the parking brake and jack up the rear wheels of your automobile . Lift the front of the vehicle and put it on jack stands securely. On this subassembly, if available, take off the two plastic splash shields located under the engine, drain the engine oil, and thereafter, dismantle the oil filter as well as the oil dipstick. Unbolt the oil pan and ensure that if it is tightly fixed then other thin tools like a screwdriver and putty knife can be used to pry off the oil pan without compromising on the mating surfaces in a way that they will develop leaks. For installation, scrape out all the existing sealer from the block and oil pan with a scraper and wipe the mating surface with brake system cleaner. Make sure that the holes on the block for the threaded bolts are smooth and the oil pan flange will not have any warp; if there is, the sharp edges should be smoothened. Check the oil pump pick-up tube assembly on the shop floor for cracks and a blocked strainer and if removed, clean it before re-installation using a new gasket, and tighten the pick-up tube nuts and bolts as specified. Squash an RTV sealant with approximately 3/16-inch thickness on the joining surface of the oil pan, adhere to the producer's instructions for assembling and setting times. Set the oil pan onto the engine block and put the bolts in, just loosely, and then tighten them to the middle from the outside. The rest of the installation process goes in the reverse order to the removal process; however, oil should not be introduced for at least an hour to allow the sealant to harden. Last but not the least, start the engine and observe the oil pressure and any kind leaks.
