Q:
How do you remove the oil pump on V4 engine for 2002 through 2008 Toyota Solara and 2002 through 2006 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the oil pump, start by removing the timing chain and crankshaft sprocket. Then, rotate the engine counterclockwise and set the crankshaft key to the left horizontal position to remove the oil pump drive chain and sprockets. Next, detach the oil pump body from the engine by removing the mounting bolts and carefully prying it off. Use a scraper to remove any sealant or gasket material from the pump body and engine block, and clean the mating surfaces. Inspect the oil pump and chain for wear and damage, replacing them if necessary. To install the oil pump, lubricate the pump cavity with clean engine oil and position it with a new gasket against the block. Tighten the mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to avoid warping the body. Install the drive chain and sprockets, ensuring that the colored links on the chain align with the alignment marks on the gears. Tighten the lower drive sprocket retaining bolt. Finally, reassemble the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal, add oil to the proper level, start the engine, and check for oil pressure and leaks.

Q:
How do you remove the oil pump on V6 engine for 2002 through 2008 Toyota Solara and 2002 through 2006 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the oil pump, start by removing the oil pan. Proceed to remove the timing belt and lower timing belt idler pulley, followed by the crankshaft sprocket. Support the engine with a jack, remove the engine insulator mounting nuts, and then raise the engine while removing the insulator. Remove the oil pick-up tube, the alternator and its bracket, and unbolt the air conditioning compressor, setting it aside without disconnecting the refrigerant lines. Remove the compressor bracket, the power steering pump adjusting bar, and pry the pump away from the oil pump body. Next, remove the lower timing belt idler pulley and its stud. Proceed to remove the bolts and detach the oil pump from the engine, taking care when prying between the front main bearing cap and the pump body if necessary. Remove the O-ring and the oil pressure relief valve components. Use a large Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws retaining the body cover, lift the cover off, and remove the pump rotors. Afterward, use a scraper to eliminate all traces of sealant and old gasket material from the pump body and engine block, and clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. For inspection, clean all components with solvent and inspect for wear and damage, especially the oil pressure relief valve and its spring. Check the clearances of various components using a feeler gauge as specified. For installation, begin by prying out the old crankshaft seal and then apply multi-purpose grease or engine oil to the new seal's outer edge. Carefully drive the seal into place with a seal driver and a hammer, ensuring that you apply multi-purpose grease to the seal lip. Insert the drive and driven rotors into the pump body with their marks facing out. Pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly and install the cover, securely tightening the screws in a criss-cross pattern. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve with engine oil and install the valve components into the pump body. Clean the gasket surfaces with acetone or lacquer thinner and a clean rag. Apply a 2 to 3 mm wide bead of anaerobic sealant to the oil pump, making sure not to use excessive sealant, especially around oil passages and bolt holes. Install a new O-ring on the block and align the drive rotor with the crankshaft as you slide the oil pump into place. Secure it with the oil pump mounting bolts, and then use a new gasket to install the oil pick-up tube, tightening the fasteners. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal, add oil, start the engine, and check for oil leaks. Finally, recheck the engine oil level.
