To replace the water pump in a vehicle, follow these steps:Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.Drain the cooling system.Remove the engine cover.Remove the engine splash shield.Remove the drivebelt(s).Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.Remove the fan shroud and cooling fan. For 1GR-FE models, also remove the air filter housing and water inlet housing. Remove the idler pulleys, alternator, and drivebelt tensioner. Remove the water pump mounting bolts and clean the gasket mating surfaces. Install a new gasket and water pump, and replace the O-ring. Install the water inlet assembly and tighten the mounting fasteners. For 2UZ-FE models, remove the timing belt and idler pulley. Disconnect the bypass hose and remove the water inlet assembly. Remove the water pump mounting bolts and replace the O-ring. Install a new gasket and water pump. Clean the gasket surface of the water inlet assembly and install a new O-ring. For 1UR-FE, 3UR-FE, and 3UR-FBE models, disconnect the harness and remove the air conditioning compressor. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses and remove the cooler tubes. Disconnect the bypass hoses and remove the water inlet assembly. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pump. Replace the O-ring and clean the gasket surfaces. Install a new gasket and water pump, and replace the water inlet O-ring. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for leaks.
