Q:
How to replace the water pump on my Toyota Tacoma? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the water pump, begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If you're working on a PreRunner or 4WD model, remove the forward under-vehicle splash shield. Proceed to drain the cooling system and, if applicable, remove the engine cover for V6 models. Remove the drive belt and engine cooling fan. For four-cylinder models, remove the alternator, followed by the drive belt tensioner and water pump mounting bolts. Thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces. Install a new gasket and water pump, tightening the bolts to the specified torque. The remaining steps involve reversing the removal process. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for any leaks. For V6 models, remove the air filter assembly, oil cooler hoses (if present), and coolant bypass hoses. Take out the water inlet assembly, idler pulleys, and alternator. Unbolt and set aside the air conditioning compressor, then remove the drive belt tensioner and water pump mounting bolts. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly. During installation, install a new gasket and water pump, ensuring the bolts are tightened to the specified torque. Place a new O-ring on the water pump and install the water inlet assembly, tightening the mounting fasteners to the correct torque. The remaining steps involve reversing the removal process. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for any leaks.

Q:
How to remove and install water pumps on four-cylinder and V6 engines for Toyota T100,Toyota Tacoma and 1996 through 2002 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
A:
Four-cylinder engines, Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system. Remove the power steering belt, alternator/water pump belt, and air conditioning belt. Remove the fan shroud from the radiator. Remove the fan assembly from the water pump. Remove the water pump pulley and disconnect the radiator inlet hose and bypass hose. Remove the bolts retaining the water pump to the engine block and remove the water pump. Thoroughly clean the gasket sealing surface on the timing chain cover. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new gasket and tighten the water pump bolts to the torque. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for leaks. V6 engines: Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system. Remove the timing belt. Remove the alternator adjuster bracket and bolt assembly and remove the thermostat housing and thermostat from the water pump. If the engine is equipped with an oil cooler, disconnect the number 2 oil cooler hose from the water pump. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the engine. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose and the bypass hose. Thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces, removing all traces of oil. Apply a 3 mm bead of ATV sealant to the water pump. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the water pump bolts to the torque. Refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check for leaks.
