Q:
How to check the fuel pump and fuel pressure? Posted by Customer
A:
To check the fuel pump, switch on the ignition and listen for the sound of the electric motor running, which should be audible from beneath the rear seats. If the pump does not run, it is advised to check the fuse, relay, and wiring. To check the fuel pressure, a fuel pressure gauge should be connected in the fuel line at the rear of the engine compartment. Start the engine and note the gauge reading once the pressure stabilizes. If the pressure is high, the fuel pressure regulator should be replaced. If the pressure is low, it could indicate a problem with the fuel pressure regulator, low voltage to the fuel pump, a faulty fuel pump, or a blocked fuel pump filter. After turning off the engine, verify that there is significant pressure remaining for five minutes. Carefully disconnect the fuel pressure gauge, ensuring to depressurize the system first and clean up any spilled petrol. Finally, run the engine and check for any fuel leaks.

Q:
How do you remove the combined fuel pump,Fuel Filter and fuel gauge sender unit in a Toyota Echo and Toyota Yaris? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the combined fuel pump and Fuel Level Sensor in a vehicle, start by disconnecting the battery negative lead and folding the rear seat forwards or removing it. Lift up the carpet and pry up the access cover to reveal the unit. Disconnect the wiring plug and fuel supply pipe from the top of the unit, being cautious of fuel spillage. Remove the evaporative emissions connector by squeezing the tabs together and pulling it off. Unscrew and remove the mounting plate or loosen the lock ring, depending on the model. Lift out the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor, being careful not to damage the pump filter or bend the Fuel Level Sensor float arm. To remove the fuel pump from the unit, release the plastic tabs securing the two halves of the unit and separate them. Disconnect the fuel pump connector and unclip the fuel pump lower cover. Lift out the fuel pump lower spacer and slide out the pump from the filter assembly. Refitting is the reverse of removal. To remove the fuel pressure regulator, separate the upper and lower sections of the unit and disconnect the fuel pump wiring plug. Prise up the fuel pressure regulator and remove it. Refitting is the reverse of removal. The fuel filter is housed in the lower section of the unit. Remove the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, then refit them to the new fuel filter and reassemble with the upper section of the unit. To remove the Fuel Level Sensor, disconnect the wiring plug and pull out the retaining clip. Note the fitted location of the Fuel Level Sensor when removing it. Refitting is the reverse of removal, ensuring the condition of the fuel filter and rubber seal, tightening the mounting plate bolts or lock ring securely, and checking for correct pump operation and leaks before refitting the access cover.
