    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install Oil Pump in V6 engine on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the liming chain cover, start by taking out the oil pipe mounting bolts and the oil pipe, discarding the two old oil pipe O-rings. Next, remove the oil pump cover bolts and the oil pump cover, followed by the oil pump drive rotor and driven rotor. Then, take out the oil pressure relief plug, valve spring, and valve from the oil pump cover. Clean all components with solvent and inspect for wear and damage, ensuring the oiled relief valve moves freely through its bore. Check the sliding surface of the oil pressure relief valve and the valve spring; if either is damaged, replace them as a set. Measure the clearance of the driven rotor-to-oil pump body, rotor side clearance, and rotor tip clearance with a feeler gauge, comparing the measurements to the specified standards. For installation, pry out the old crankshaft seal from the timing chain cover, apply multi-purpose grease or engine oil to the outer edge of the new crank seal, and carefully drive it into place. Lubricate the seal lip and apply petroleum jelly to the pump drive and driven rotors before positioning them in the timing chain cover with the pump marks facing out. Pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly to help prime the pump, install the cover, and tighten the cover bolts to the specified torque. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve with clean engine oil, insert the valve and spring into the pump cover, and screw in the plug, tightening it to the specified torque. Finally, install the timing chain cover, complete the installation in reverse order of removal, add oil, install a new filter, and run the engine to check for leaks.

    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install Oil Pump in V8 engine on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the engine, first detach the oil pan, oil pick-up tube, and strainer. Next, take off the timing belt along with the number 1 and number 2 idler pulleys, followed by the crankshaft timing sprocket and crankshaft position sensor, noting that the oil pump body is located behind the crankshaft sprocket. Proceed to remove the oil filter/cooler assembly and the eight mounting bolts to detach the oil pump from the front of the engine, using a screwdriver to pry it off if necessary, while being cautious to avoid damaging the sealing surfaces. Remove the O-ring from the engine block, and for models from 2004 and earlier, take out the oil pressure relief valve snap-ring from the bottom of the oil pump; for 2005 and later models, remove the plug from the bottom of the oil pump to allow the retainer, spring, and valve to slide out. Use a large Phillips screwdriver to take out the screws holding the body cover to the rear of the oil pump, then lift the cover off and remove the pump rotors. Clean all traces of sealant and old gasket material from the pump body and engine block with a scraper, followed by cleaning the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. For inspection, ensure to use the clearance specifications for the 4.7L V8 engine. For installation, pry out the old crankshaft seal and apply multi-purpose grease or engine oil to the outer edge of the new seal before carefully driving it into place with a deep socket and hammer, also greasing the seal lip. Place the drive and driven rotors into the pump body with the marks facing out, pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly, and install the cover, tightening the screws securely in a criss-cross pattern. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve with engine oil and install the valve components in the pump body. Clean the gasket surfaces with acetone or lacquer thinner to remove all traces of oil, then apply a 2 to 3 mm wide bead of RTV sealant to the oil pump, ensuring not to use excessive amounts, especially around oil passages and bolt holes, and complete the assembly within five minutes of sealant application. Position a new O-ring on the block at the top of the oil pump, engage the spline teeth on the oil pump drive rotor with the large teeth on the crankshaft, and slide the pump into place. Install the oil pump mounting bolts in their original locations and tighten them to the specified torque in a criss-cross pattern. Using a new gasket, install the oil pick-up tube and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque. Finally, reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal, refill the engine oil and coolant, start the engine, and check for oil leaks.
