Remove the timing belt and camshaft pulley(s). Detach the camshaft oil seal retainer and O-ring from the head by removing the bolts. Support the retainer on two blocks of wood and drive the old seal out from the back side, ensuring not to damage the camshaft or seal bore. Clean the retainer and cylinder head mating surfaces along with the seal bore using lacquer thinner or acetone. Coat the outer edge of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease, then support the retainer as close to the seal bore as possible. Using a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer, ensuring it is installed squarely and checking afterward to confirm the garter spring did not pop out of place. Clean the bolt threads and apply sealant to the first three threads, then apply moly-base grease to the seal lip. Install a new O-ring, position the retainer on the head, and install the bolts, tightening them in a criss-cross pattern to the specified torque. For other engines, unbolt the upper timing belt rear cover if equipped, note how far the seal is seated in the bore, and carefully pry it out with a small screwdriver, avoiding any nicks or scratches. Clean the bore and coat the outer edge of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease, applying moly-base grease to the seal lip. Drive the new seal into place with a hammer, ensuring it is installed squarely and to the same depth as the original. Reinstall the camshaft pulley and timing belt, then run the engine to check for oil leaks at the camshaft seal.
