There is no need to change the starter and solenoid assembly with individual components. In case of a problem, it is important to replace the entire starter/solenoid assembly with a new or rebuilt one. First remove the cable from the battery's negative terminal. Next, jack up the vehicle and ensure it is held firmly by jack stands. Remove the splash shield from under the engine block then disconnect electrical connector from starter solenoid, remove nut and also take off battery cable from solenoid. Then remove starter mounting bolts and take out starter from vehicle. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.

Check for battery voltage to the solenoid to determine if it is receiving the correct voltage signal from the ignition switch. Connect a test light or voltmeter to the starter solenoid positive terminal while an assistant turns the ignition switch to the start position. If voltage is not available, check all fuses and relays in series with the starting system. If voltage is available but the starter motor does not operate, remove the starter from the engine compartment and bench test it.

After disconnecting the starter solenoid, you should remove the starter motor mounting bolts and then remove the starter from the vehicle.

Check various components such as battery cable clamps, battery cables, battery condition, starter solenoid wiring and connections, starter mounting bolts, fusible links, and the operation of the transmission range sensor or clutch start switch.
