Toyota 28100-50091 Starter Assembly

a) Make sure the battery cable clamps, where they connect to the battery, are clean and tight. b) Check the condition of the battery cables and replace any defective ones. c) Test the condition of the battery; if it does not pass all tests, replace it with a new battery. d) Check the starter solenoid wiring and connections. e) Check the starter mounting bolts for tightness. f) Check the ignition switch circuit for correct operation. g) Check the operation of the Park/Neutral Position switch (automatic transmission) or clutch start switch (manual transmission). Ensure the shift lever is in PARK or NEUTRAL (automatic) or the clutch pedal is pressed (manual). h) Check the operation of the starter relay located in the fuse/relay box inside the engine compartment.

The starter is located on top of the engine, between the cylinder heads, underneath the upper intake manifold.
