Toyota 28100-75140 Starter Motor

Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the starter motor mounting bolts securely.

A reading of nine volts or more, with the starter motor turning at normal cranking speed, is normal. If the reading is nine volts or more but the cranking speed is slow, the motor is faulty. If the reading is less than nine volts and the cranking speed is slow, the solenoid contacts are probably burned, the starter motor is bad, the battery is discharged, or there is a bad connection.

Be cautious as the battery cables may become excessively heated due to the large amount of amperage being drawn. Discontinue testing until the starting system has cooled down. If the starter motor cranking amp values are not within the correct range, replace it with a new unit. Ensure the battery is in good condition, the cold-cranking rating is adequate, and that the battery terminals and cables are clean and not corroded. In extreme cold temperatures, warm the battery or engine block before performing tests.
