Q:
What is the recommended method for adjusting headlights to avoid blinding oncoming drivers and reducing visibility? Posted by Customer
A:
The headlights must be aimed correctly to avoid blinding oncoming drivers and causing accidents or reducing visibility. It is recommended to check the aim of the headlights every 12 months and whenever a new headlight is installed or front-end bodywork is performed. While the following procedure is an interim step, it can provide temporary adjustment until the headlights can be properly adjusted by a equipped shop. The simplest method of adjusting the headlights involves using masking tape, a blank wall, and a level floor. The tape should be positioned vertically on the wall in reference to the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights, and a horizontal tape line should be positioned in reference to the centerline of all the headlights. The adjustment should be made with the vehicle parked 25 feet from the wall, sitting level, with the gas tank half-full and no unusually heavy load in the vehicle. Starting with the low beam adjustment, the high intensity zone should be positioned two inches below the horizontal line and two inches to the side of the headlight vertical line, away from oncoming traffic. The adjustment can be made by turning the vertical adjusting screw. With the high beams on, the high intensity zone should be vertically centered with the exact center just below the horizontal line. It is important to note that some 2002 models have a horizontal adjustment screw, but later models do not offer adjustment for the horizontal plane. If a compromise must be made, it is recommended to prioritize the proper aim of the low beams as they are the most used and have the greatest effect on driver safety. It is advised to have the headlights adjusted by a dealer service department or service station as soon as possible.

A:
To remove the headlight assembly, start by removing the headlight bulb and the side marker light.
