To remove the steering wheel, start by turning the ignition key Off and disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. Disconnect the positive cable as well and wait for at least two minutes before proceeding. Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are pointing straight ahead. Pry off the small covers on either side of the steering wheel and loosen the Torx screws that secure the airbag module to the steering wheel. Loosen each screw until the groove catches on the screw case. Pull the airbag module off the steering wheel and disconnect its electrical connector. Unplug the electrical connector for the horn and cruise control system. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut and mark the relationship between the steering shaft and the hub to ensure proper alignment during installation. Use a puller to disconnect the steering wheel from the shaft. For installation, ensure that the front wheels are facing straight ahead. Turn the spiral cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn, then rotate it clockwise about three turns and align the two red pointers. To install the wheel, align the marks on the steering wheel hub and shaft, and slide the wheel onto the shaft. Install the nut and tighten it to the specified torque. Plug in the horn and cruise control connector. Plug in the electrical connector for the airbag module. Install the airbag module and tighten the Torx retaining screws according to the specified torque. Finally, connect the battery cables, starting with the positive cable and ending with the negative cable.
