1992 Toyota Land Cruiser Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and inspect of the oil pump assembly in DOHC engine for the 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: To disassemble the engine, first, take out the drivebelts and the idler pulley located at the front of the engine, followed by the oil pan. After that, remove the crankshaft pulley and the timing chain cover, followed by taking off the seven bolts to remove the oil pump body from the timing cover. Scrape off all the sealant and old gasket putty from the pump body and the timing cover and washing the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Extract the drive and driven rotors and then unthread and pull out the oil pressure relief valve snap-ring retainer spring the and piston installed on the side of the cover, do this wearing safety glasses due to the tightly compressed spring. For inspection, clean all components with the solvent and then check the wear or damage because if both oil pressure relief valve piston sliding surface and the valve spring are worn, both must be replaced together with the set.
