How to remove and inspect the rear control arms for the 2004 Toyota 4Runner?

Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands while blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the wheel and support the rear axle with a floor jack. For vehicles with rear height control, mark the relationship of the height control sensor linkage to the upper control arm before disconnecting it, then remove the mounting fasteners at each end of the arm and take it out. Next, unbolt the parking brake cable bracket from the lower control arm and remove the mounting fasteners at each end of that arm as well. Inspect all control arm bushings for cracks, tears, or deterioration, and replace the arm(s) if necessary, noting that an automotive shop specializing in suspension repair may be able to replace the bushings. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque values. Finally, raise the rear axle to simulate normal ride height, support it with jackstands, and tighten the mounting fasteners.
