2004 Toyota Sienna Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the oil pan in 3.5L V6 engine for the 2004 Toyota Sienna?
A: This procedure presupposes that the engine has been lowed from the car; if not, further actions may be needed depending on the car model. First of all, remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery followed by the draining process of the engine oil. Have the bolts and nuts that fastened the oil pan No. 2 to the larger cast aluminum oil pan are corroded by some RTV sealant that makes it hard to get on and off. If this is needed, then use the rubber mallet to strike lightly at the seam until it is loose or you may want to gently scrape it off with a putty knife and then use the hammer without striking the sealer direct on the joining surfaces. Next, take out the oil pump pickup tube/strainer mounting nuts and brace bolt and then, the pickup/strainer assembly. After they get undone , pry the oil pan from the block very gently in these areas usually where the bolts and nuts are placed. In this case, you need to carry out the removal of the O-rings situated at the bottom of the engine block as well as the sheet metal baffle plate if adjoined. To perform the installations, first of all, reinstall the baffle plate and fasten the fasteners in order. Scrape off existing sealer from the block and oil pan and then wiped the mating surface with the help of brake cleaner. As for the threaded holes in the block make sure they are clean and insert new O-rings if needed, and apply clean grease for their better retention. Examining the flange of the steel oil pan for distortion and correct such by flattening it. Check the strainer for cracks and blockage, and clean it with solvent and apply new gasket afterwards tightening the bolt. Using the RTV sealant, cover a 1/8 inch bead around the upper oil pan flange, then place the pan on the block and tighten the fasteners beginning with those in the centre. Following this place the aluminum section of the oil pan and take RTV sealant and spread over the flange of the oil pan No. 2, then fix the upper oil pan over it and fit the bolts in it and while tightening must start from the center bolt only. Last, secure the components back in reverse, put oil, get a fresh filter, test the engine for any leakage.
