Oil changes are vital for engine upkeep. You'll need tools like a drain pan, gloves, breaker bar, socket, and filter wrench, plus rags for spills. It's easier to access the vehicle's underside when lifted. Identify the oil drain plug location. Warm up the engine, then turn it off. Remove the filler cap, lift the vehicle, remove the splash shield, and place a drain pan under the oil pan drain plug. Drain the old oil and check for metal shavings. Clean and reinstall the plug. If you have a V8 engine, move the drain pan under the oil filter, remove it, clean the surface, compare filters, lubricate the new filter's gasket, and attach it. Lower the vehicle, add new oil, check the level, and look for leaks. Dispose of the old oil responsibly and watch for leaks post-oil change.
