Before extracting the exhaust manifold the nuts for the hood, calmly unplug the negative terminal of the battery then place the front part of the car on jackstands. After that, put the penetrating oil on the bolts and springs that connect the exhaust pipe to the manifold and then, remove the bolts and dividing the front exhaust pipe but be careful with the oxygen sensor. One may have to drop the inner heat shield over the right driveaxle in order to get at one of the bolts. Moving on, you need to loosen the lower exhaust manifold brace bolt and pull off the brace from the engine. In the engine compartment, unbolt the heat shield from manifold, complete the process disconnecting the oxygen sensor and came out the mounting bolts of upper heat shield, finally separating the manifold along with the gasket. For installation, clean the mating surfaces of any gasket material or carbon buildup; if the manifold was leaking, inspect it for warpage. If replacing with a new manifold, it is required to remove low heat shield and install it to that new component. Place an additional new gasket on the
Cylinder Head studs, position the manifold in their place and engage the latter's mounting nuts. On making the nuts/bolt tighten, do so from the center out in several equal turns of three or four and replace the other parts in the reverse order. Last of all turn the engine on and look for obtrusive exhaust leaks.
