Q: How to access and remove the heater core on 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The manufacturer recommends removing the instrument panel to reach the heater core, a task requiring the disconnection of numerous electrical connectors. In the engine compartment, disconnect the heater hoses and plug the heater core pipes. Remove the instrument panel, PCM, and AC module. Remove various ducts, brackets, the console duct box, and side air ducts. Remove the steering column, and fuse box, and release the wiring harness clamps and bolts. Lift the brace and AC/heater assembly. Remove the bolt from the heater core bracket, and slide out the heater core. Installation is the reverse of the removal.
