How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley on Toyota Highlander?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the drivebelt. With the parking brake applied and the shifter in Park for automatic or in gear for manual, loosen the lug nuts from the right front wheel, then raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jack stands. Remove the right front wheel and the right splash shield from the wheel well. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, using a breaker bar if necessary due to the tightness of the bolt; a puller base and several spacers can be mounted to the center hub of the pulley to prevent the crankshaft from turning while loosening the pulley retaining bolt. Use a puller that bolts to the crankshaft hub to remove the crankshaft pulley, ensuring the proper adapter is used between the puller screw and the nose of the crankshaft. Depending on the type of puller, it may be necessary to support the engine from above, remove the right side engine mount, and lower the engine for sufficient clearance. To install the crankshaft pulley, slide it onto the crankshaft as far as it will go, then use a vibration damper installation tool to press it onto the crankshaft, ensuring the slot in the hub aligns with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft. The crankshaft bolt can also be used to press the pulley into position. Tighten the crankshaft bolt, and complete the installation by reversing the removal steps.

Q: How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley on Toyota Highlander?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the drivebelt. With the parking brake applied and the shifter in Park for automatic or in gear for manual, loosen the lug nuts from the right front wheel, then raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jack stands. Remove the right front wheel and the right splash shield from the wheel well. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, using a breaker bar if necessary due to the tightness of the bolt; a puller base and several spacers can be mounted to the center hub of the pulley to prevent the crankshaft from turning while loosening the pulley retaining bolt. Use a puller that bolts to the crankshaft hub to remove the crankshaft pulley, ensuring the proper adapter is used between the puller screw and the nose of the crankshaft. Depending on the type of puller, it may be necessary to support the engine from above, remove the right side engine mount, and lower the engine for sufficient clearance. To install the crankshaft pulley, slide it onto the crankshaft as far as it will go, then use a vibration damper installation tool to press it onto the crankshaft, ensuring the slot in the hub aligns with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft. The crankshaft bolt can also be used to press the pulley into position. Tighten the crankshaft bolt, and complete the installation by reversing the removal steps.
