Park the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring you have the correct activation code for the stereo if it has an anti-theft system. For models with airbags, pry out the small covers on each side of the steering wheel and loosen the Torx head screws that attach the airbag module. Detach the airbag module and unplug its connector, always keeping the airbag opening pointed away from your body and placing it in a safe location with the opening facing up. For vehicles without airbags, remove the screws securing the horn pad. Next, remove the steering wheel retaining nut and mark the relationship of the steering shaft to the hub to simplify installation and ensure alignment, taking care not to allow the steering shaft to turn while the wheel is removed. Use a puller to detach the steering wheel from the shaft without hammering on it. If the front wheels remained straight during the procedure, the steering wheel can be installed; if not, center the spiral cable by placing the wheels straight and turning the cable hub counterclockwise until it becomes harder to turn, then rotate it clockwise about three turns and align the two red pointers. To install the wheel, align the mark on the steering wheel hub with the mark on the shaft, slip the wheel onto the shaft, install the nut, and tighten it to the specified torque. Finally, plug in the electrical connectors and install the airbag module or steering wheel pad, then reconnect the negative battery cable.
