The driving force of this sports car's ignition sequence is the Toyota MR2 Starter Solenoid that connects battery power to the starter motor and at the same time pushes the pinion into the flywheel. The Starter Solenoid acts as an electromagnetic switch. It receives a small electrical current from the key switch. Thus, the Starter Solenoid snaps heavy contacts closed. Remove the two through bolts to separate the starter motor from the gear housing. Take out the old starter motor O-ring using a small screwdriver, and always install a new O-ring when putting the starter motor back.
