The brake light switch, which is responsible for activating the brake lights at the rear of the vehicle when the brake pedal is pressed, is located on a bracket at the top of the pedal. To remove and install the switch, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and securing it away from the battery post. Take caution if your vehicle's stereo has an anti-theft system. Next, disconnect the wiring harness at the switch and then loosen the locknut and unscrew the switch from the pedal bracket. Install the new switch in the reverse order. For adjustment, loosen the locknut and adjust the switch so that the threaded portion lightly contacts the pedal stopper, then tighten the locknut. Finally, connect the wiring at the switch and the battery, and with the help of an assistant, ensure that the rear brake lights are functioning properly.
