To check the ignition switch and the warning buzzer, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Locate the large plastic electrical connector next to the turn signal, hazard flasher, and dimmer switch connector at the bottom of the steering column assembly, and remove the steering column cover. Use an ohmmeter to check for continuity between the indicated terminals in the electrical connectors; if the continuity of the ignition switch or buzzer is not as specified, replace the ignition switch. For replacement, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and remove the steering column cover. Detach the bezel along with the illumination bulb holder by removing two screws. Set the key in the ACC position, depress the inset retaining pin on the side of the unit, and pull on the key to withdraw the lock unit. To remove the ignition switch, take out the retaining screws, withdraw the unit from the column, and disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the multi-connector. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that if the ignition switch is slotted, the tab in the bracket aligns with the recess in the ignition switch before installation.
