How to remove and install Shift Cable on 2005 through 2009 Toyota Tacoma?

Taking off the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, follow steps to open and reduce the center console to access the shifter assembly. Shut off the connection of the wiring to the voltage inverter that is found under the console, unscrew the bolts, and pull out the inverter. Pull off the cable from the shifter bracket by pulling the place where the cable was inserted and unlock the lock on the cable end, unscrew it. Take out the nuts to release the cable from the floor of the car, properly lift the car and support it on jackstands, and unbolt the cable guide bracket from the floor pan. Subsequently, unlock the nut which couplings the end of the shift cable to the manual lever, and disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever while pulling off the cable retainer clip. Be very gentle when feeding the cable through the body and when installing it, all the processes should be undertake in the revere method as the removal process, make sure that the lever on the side of the transmission and the shift lever are both in Neutral position enabling the cable to click into place. For the shift rod, there is no way around it, you need to lift the car and securely place it on jackstands. The shift rod of some type has a clevis pin on the Trans end and a bolt on the shifter end Depending on the make of the car, the shift rod may connect by a clevis pin on the transmission side and by a bolt on the shifter side. If the shifter has been aligned properly, make a mental or written note of the location of the rod's rear bolt before it is unscrewed. A structural change is made to the clevis by unbolt the front cotter pin and pulling the clevis out and unbolt the adjusting bolt and nut at the rear. To remove or install, reverse the above mentioned procedures, and to adjust the shifter, loosen the rear bolt while the transmission lever and the shifter lever should be in Neutral, then slowly tighten the adjusting bolt. It is always important check that the position of the rod is fine to confirm that the range that is showing on the console is the transmission range.
