The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch prevents the engine from starting in any gear other than Park or Neutral; if the engine starts in any other position, it may be out of adjustment or defective. Begin by raising the vehicle and securing it on jackstands. Remove the transmission control cable mounting nut from the shaft lever and detach the cable. Unplug the electrical connector from the PNP switch, then take off the shaft lever nut, washer, and lever. Use a screwdriver to bend back the locking tabs and remove the locknut, followed by the PNP switch retaining bolt to take out the switch. For installation, reverse the removal steps and check the switch, adjusting if necessary. To adjust, again raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, ensuring that on Sequoia models with rear height control suspension, the height control is set to NORMAL mode and turned OFF before raising the vehicle. Loosen the switch retaining bolt and position the switch in the N (neutral) position, aligning the groove with the neutral basic line, then tighten the switch retaining bolt while holding it in place.
