Toyota 84540-04010 Switch Assy, Neutral Start

The Park/Neutral Position switch prevents the engine from starting in any gear other than Park or Neutral; if the engine starts in any other position, it may be out of adjustment or defective, and the switch is located on the right side of the transmission near the oil pan. To remove the switch, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, then unplug the electrical connector from the switch, pry back the lock washer fingers to remove the nut, loosen the retaining bolt, and take out the switch. Installation involves reversing the removal steps and checking or adjusting the switch as needed. For adjustment, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, move the shifter to Neutral, loosen the switch retaining bolt, align the groove inside the nut with the neutral basic line above it, hold the switch in position while tightening the retaining bolt, and verify that the engine starts only in Neutral and Park.
