    Q:
How to Remove and Install Front Shock Absorber on Toyota MR2? Posted by Customer
    A:
Even though strut damper assemblies may not get to the end of service life at the same time, it is recommended that both a left and a right strut be replaced at one time to prevent handling problems or rough riding. First, partially unscrew the front side wheel bolts but do not remove them; then, fulfill the lifting of the car front and placing it on the stands; finally, remove the front wheel. Place the car in the air using the jack but without raising the spring in the lower control arm, then unscrew the additional three nuts and washers inside the front luggage compartment where the top of the strut bolts to the car body. Fourth, unbolt the stabilizer link, unbolt the brake hose clip at the strut, unclasp the line coming from the caliper to place it through the strut bracket. Scratch the strut and knuckle so that after dismantling you can align the camber correctly, remembering that the new strut dampers will not have scribe marks; you will have to visit the dealer or an alignment shop after reassembling to resolve issues with uneven tire wear and abnormal vehicle handling. Take off the strut mounting nuts and bolts as well as the lower control arm bolts from the steering knuckle; lower the jack and then disconnect the strut assembly and the spacer plate. For installation, locate the strut assembly and spacer plate, then lift the control arm using the floor jack, to snap-in the knuckle with the mounting holes on the strut bracket to slip the strut mounting bolts that should be tightened only with the fingers. It is recommended that one presses the scribe marks on the strut bracket and knuckle, and thereafter, tighten the strut mounting bolts to the stipulated torque. Replace the stabilizer bar link, put the brake hose clip back, re-connect the brake line to the caliper as well as re-bleed the caliper. To do this, fit the tire and wheel assembly, drop the car, torque the lug nuts, and fit the three of the upper strut washers and nuts to the indicated torque. If a new strut has been fitted, then one should drive the car to a dealer or the alignment shop to have the camber as well as the toe-in adjusted.
