Q:
How do you remove the front strut from a Toyota Celica? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the strut, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the wheel and, if working on a 1989 or earlier model, mark the relationship of the strut to the camber adjuster and steering knuckle. Unbolt the brake hose from the caliper and detach it from the strut bracket. If the vehicle has ABS, remove the speed sensor wiring harness from the strut. Remove the strut-to-knuckle nuts and separate the strut from the steering knuckle, being careful not to overextend the inner CV joint. Support the strut and spring assembly and remove the three strut-to-shock tower nuts. Inspect the strut body for damage and the coil spring and spring seat for any issues. If necessary, proceed to the strut disassembly procedure. To install the strut, guide the assembly into the fender well and insert the three upper mounting studs through the holes in the shock tower. Install the nuts to secure the strut. Insert the camber adjuster into the upper hole in the steering knuckle (for 1989 and earlier models) and slide the steering knuckle into the strut flange. Insert the bolts and tighten the nuts, aligning the previously marked positions. Guide the brake hose through its bracket and reconnect it to the caliper. Install the speed sensor wiring harness bracket if applicable. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. Finally, tighten the three upper mounting nuts and take the vehicle to an alignment shop for a front end alignment check and adjustment if necessary.
