The alternator and air conditioner compressor have fan belts, located at the right side of the engine which can wear out or expand resulting in the drivers performing checks often. The number of belts varies with different accessories for a vehicle. To inspect, switch off the engine and open the bonnet to check for shine on the belt using a flashlight. Check both sides of it. Replace if worn out. Gauge belt tension or push on it. Loosen the alternator bolt or turn the idler pulley bolt to make adjustments. When replacing, take off the belt from the crankshaft pulley. Both belts should be changed simultaneously. Ensure that the new belt fits into the grooves that are on the pulley of the fan cover.
