Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle, and place it securely on jackstands before removing the rear wheels. Next, take off the heat insulator from the exhaust system and disconnect the sway bar links from the bar by removing the lower nut; if the strut is being removed, the upper nut should be taken off instead. If the ballstud turns with the nut, hold the stud with an Allen wrench. Unbolt the sway bar bushing retainers and the two brackets from the body, ensuring to remove the bushing retainer bolts and brackets from both sides. For Camry Solara convertible models, a floor reinforcement subassembly of braces must be removed to allow for sway bar removal. The sway bar can then be taken out by pulling the retainers off using a rocking motion. Inspect the bushings for wear, hardness, distortion, cracking, and other signs of deterioration, replacing them if necessary, and also check the sway bar links. Clean the areas of the bar where the bushings ride with a wire brush, and if needed, apply a light coat of vegetable oil to facilitate bushing and U-bracket installation, avoiding petroleum-based products or brake fluid as they can damage the rubber. Finally, installation follows the reverse order of removal, and for Solara convertible models, ensure to tighten the floor reinforcement brace bolts to 38 ft-lbs.
